Trip Detail Info

A morning tour of Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine, along with a visit to Namsan Hanok Village to explore traditional Korean houses.

You begin the tour by being picked up at Koreana Hotel (135, Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea) at 08:40AM. Enjoy this morning half-day tour that will introduce you to the historical heritage of Seoul. Visit the famous Bukchon Hanok village, Jongmyo shrine, the Changdeokgung Palace or Gyeongbokgung Palace before finishing at Insadong. You will head off to the Buckchon Cultural Center, which will provide you with information about the Bukchon Hanok Village. The center shows exhibits and films relating to the history of Bukchon. It is a perfect starting point, which will let you experience Bukchon and its authentically Korean atmosphere. Your guide will take you to Buckchon Scenic Spots #4, #5, #6 and show you traditional houses called 'hanok' dating back to the Joseon Dynasty. The name, 'Bukchon,' which literally translates to 'northern village,' refers to the area being located north of Cheonggyecheon - a Korean landmark. You will then head to the Jongmyo Royal Shrine, built by Lee Seong Gye (1335-1408), the first king and founding father of the Joseon Dynasty. It was a primary place of worship for kings throughout the Joseon Dynasty and is a UNESCO-protected heritage. This site is replaced by Insadong Antique Alley on Tuesdays. Afterwards, you will visit the Changdeokgung Palace, meaning 'to brighten virtue,' and represents Korea's best preserved palace, now UNESCO-protected. It will be replaced by Gyeongbokgung Palace on Mondays. Then you will head to the Sejong Story Exhibition Hall. Finally, You will be dropped-off at Myeongdong [Koreana Hotel (135, Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea) → Bukchon Scenic Spot #4, #5, #6→ Jongmyo Royal Shrine(*Insadong Alley on Tuesday) → Changdeokgung Palace(*Gyeongbokgung Palace on Monday) → Sejong Story Exhibition Hall (*National Museum of Korean Contemporary History on Monday) → Drop-off at Myeongdong]

Bukchon Hanok Village

Bukchon Hanok Village is a reflection of 600 years of Seoul’s history. The village is situated between Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace, and its streets are lined with traditional hanok. Unlike other hanok villages (such as Namsangol Hanok Village), Bukchon was not created for tourists and it is a residential village inhabited by Seoulites. The best place within Bukchon to experience the old hanok atmosphere may be Gaehoe-dong. Here, hundreds of hanok sit shoulder to shoulder.

Koreana Hotel (08:40AM) → Bukchon Cultural Center

Jongmyo Shrine

Jongmyo is a royal shrine dedicated to the performance of ancestral rites for the deceased kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty. Being the place where the royal ancestral tablets are enshrined, Jongmyo’s atmosphere is solemn and sacred rather than splendid like the royal palaces. The simple and elegant buildings of this shrine have faithfully kept their original forms since the 16th century.

Bukchon Hanok Village (Scenic Spot #4, #5, #6)

Changdeokgung Palace

Changdeokgung Palace is also known as Donggwol, the Eastern Palace, because of its location to the east of Gyeongbokgung Palace. For 270 years, the palace was home to the Joseon government and was also the favored residence of many Joseon Dynasty kings. This makes Changdeokgung Palace the longest-serving royal residential palace. Compared to other palaces, Changdeokgung Palace is well-preserved and still has many of its original features.
